ADR Training

The ADR Division provides training for employees seeking to develop or enhance their skills in conflict resolution. Taught by the ADR Division’s experienced mediators and trainers, these courses are interactive, engaging, and teach skills applicable to both professional and personal situations. Due to COVID-19, the ADR Division is offering a number of virtual training options outlined below. Currently, all virtual training is being facilitated through WebEx, and participants must have video capabilities. Course Description - Virtual Courses

Communication and Active Listening

This 1.5 hour course teaches the basics of active listening skills and concepts in a virtual, fully interactive environment. Perfect for employees who wish to enhance their listening and conflict management skills in a virtual environment, the course also addresses the challenges of communication and active listening in a virtual environment. We recommend that this course be taken in conjunction with Interest-Based Problem Solving, but the two may be taken individually.

Interest-Based Problem Solving

This 1.5 hour, virtual, fully interactive course teaches the concepts behind interest-based problem solving. Traditional negotiation is adversarial, win/lose, and can be intimidating. Learn the skills to turn that dynamic around, explore win/win options, and expand the pie. We recommend that this course be taken in conjunction with Communication & Active Listening, but the two may be taken individually.

Difficult Conversations

This 1.5 hour virtual course teaches skills and approaches to tackle difficult conversations in personal and professional interactions. Learn how to think about and approach the conversations that involve dramatically different perspectives on a problem, the ones that have the potential to trigger intense emotional reactions. Discuss and learn more about when and why to have these conversations, and a road map for navigating them that helps deal with the emotions while recognizing the value of different perspectives.
