2021
June 29-30, 2021: The June virtual public meeting was dedicated to the deliberation and vote on two reports to transmit to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the first from the Disparities in Antibiotics Access and Use Working Group, and the second from the Working Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Inter-Professional Education. The remainder of the 2-day public meeting included an update on the status of the antibiotic development pipeline and an open council discussion on provocative questions in AMR (no recommendations were made), in addition to presentations on Operationalizing One Health and the Environmental Dimensions of AMR.
February 10-11, 2021: The February virtual public meeting was dedicated to presentations from two new working groups of the PACCARB, one on Inter-Professional Education and another on Antibiotic Access and Use, which were formed in response to a task letter from the Assistant Secretary for Health. The two-day virtual public meeting also included an update on the impact of COVID-19 on antimicrobial resistance.
2020
September 9-10, 2020: This virtual meeting focused on the impact of COVID-19 and its effect on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Topics included presentations on the COVID-19 mortality rate due to secondary acquired infections, antibiotic stewardship practices during a pandemic, disruptions in the agricultural industry due to COVID-19 and the intersection of AMR and emergency preparedness.
February 26-27, 2020: The February HHS-hosted AMR Listening Sessions included topic discussions surrounding the current landscape of antibiotic resistance and the development of alternatives, including One Health focused panel presentations. This was not a Federal Advisory Committee Meeting.
2019
July 10-11, 2019: The July public meeting was dedicated to the council’s deliberation and vote on the NAP on CARB 2019 WG’s report out on their draft response to the Secretary of HHS on identifying priority areas for the next iteration of the National Action Plan on CARB, 2020-2025. The remainder of the two-day public meeting included panel presentations and council discussions surrounding emerging antifungals, and provider challenges and educational solutions to influence antibiotic stewardship and One Health.
April 8, 2019: The April public meeting was held via teleconference. The focus of the one hour call was for the PACCARB to deliberate and vote on a one-page report drafted by the Immediate Action Subcommittee.
January 30-31, 2019: The January public meeting was dedicated to hosting domestic and international stakeholders from all One Health domains, including animal, human, and environmental health, to explore priority areas that have emerged since the original National Action Plan on Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria (CARB) was launched in 2015.
2018
September 26, 2018: The September public meeting was dedicated to the Advisory Council’s deliberation and vote of the Infection Prevention and Stewardship Working Group’s draft report with recommendations, in addition to panel presentations and council discussion surrounding antibiotic-resistance, the environment, and One Health.
May 16, 2018: The May public meeting focused on the topic of antibiotic stewardship for animal and plant health.
March 2, 2018: The March public meeting was held via teleconference. The focus of the two hour call was for the PACCARB to deliberate and vote on two resolution letters drafted by the Immediate Action Subcommittee.
January 24, 2018: The January 24th public meeting has been canceled.
2017
September 13-14, 2017: The first day of the public meeting was dedicated to the topic of Stewardship of Antibiotic Prescription and Use. The three working groups on Incentives for Diagnostics, Therapeutics/Anti-Infectives, and Vaccines, reported their final findings to the full Advisory Council for deliberation on the second day of the public meeting, and the Advisory Council deliberated and voted on the final report presented. Additionally, federal agencies provided updates on their achievements as stipulated in the goals with corresponding objectives and milestones of the National Action Plan on Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria.
May 3-4, 2017: The May public meeting was dedicated to the topic of infection prevention and control for animal health. Additionally, the three working groups on Incentives for Diagnostics, Therapeutics/Anti-Infectives, and Vaccines, reported their preliminary findings to the full Advisory Council for deliberation; no vote was held.
January 25, 2017: The January public meeting was dedicated to presentations from non-federal stakeholders surrounding the topic area of antibiotic-resistant infection prevention and control for human health, including best practices, implementation, and workforce and education.
2016
September 19, 2016: The September public meeting was dedicated to the topics of infection prevention and control, stewardship of antibiotic use, and innovative approaches to controlling resistance for both human and animal health, from the perspectives of both federal and non-federal subject matter experts.
June 21-22, 2016: The June public meeting was dedicated to presentations from federal and non-federal stakeholders surrounding topic areas related to incentives for the development of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics. The topic of the environment and its intersection with antibiotic-resistance was also discussed.
March 30-31, 2016: The March public meeting was dedicated to discussion of the draft report developed by the Advisory Council’s working groups, entitled, Initial Assessments of the National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria; the Advisory Council then deliberated and voted to approve the recommendations in the report. The topic of One Health and its role in combating antibiotic-resistance was also discussed by both federal and non-federal stakeholders.
2015
September 29, 2015: The inaugural public meeting of the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (Advisory Council) was held. Presentations were given by Secretary Burwell, leadership from USDA and DOD, and Dr. John Holdren, Director, OSTP. Agencies also provided their updates relative to objectives and milestones in the National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria.
