Environmental Justice

What is Environmental Justice?

Environmental Justice (EJ) is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income in the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

Environmental Justice at HHS

At HHS, our work to advance environmental justice focuses on improving health and well-being. We share trainings, research, and resources that help communities identify and address priority health issues.

Environmental Justice across the Federal Government

As a member of the Federal Interagency Working Group on Environmental Justice, we support the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) goal to provide an environment where all people enjoy the same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards and equal access to the decision-making process to maintain a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work.
