Policy on Redundant, Overlapping, or Inconsistent Regulations & Request for Information

It is the policy of HHS that all regulations issued by the Department are necessary, understandable, and provide clear guidance to the public and regulated entities regarding the standards to be met and procedures to be followed. Specifically, HHS has issued a policy to ensure against duplicative regulations. Redundant, overlapping, or inconsistent regulations undermine department goals by creating uncertainty and imposing costs and burdens with no public benefit.

As part of a process to improve its regulations, and ensure against confusing or conflicting rules, the Immediate Office of the Secretary has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to solicit input from the public to help identify duplicative regulations and the problems they create so that HHS may ensure that its regulations are transparent, rational, and aimed at achieving legitimate government objectives.

To view the RFI and submit comments, visit https://www.federalregister.gov/public-inspection/2020-26022/request-for-information-on-redundant-overlapping-or-inconsistent-regulations.

Comments are due no later than 11:59 p.m., Eastern on December 21, 2020.
