Achieving the goals of the National Adult Immunization Plan (NAIP) requires the collaboration of partners around a shared vision and coordination of activities through focused implementation efforts. Meaningful progress will be achieved only if stakeholders are engaged in shared, sustained, focused, and coordinated actions.

Regional Meetings

Support adult immunization in your community! Across the nation, the National Vaccine Program and HHS regional offices are collaborating to convene action-oriented meetings in the regions that are designed to discuss and spark action around the NAIP.

How Our Partners Support the NAIP

Our partners are supporting adult immunization efforts in a number of ways.

• The Alliance for Aging Research developed a video urging older adults to lead their families in vaccination by getting their recommended vaccines and encouraging their loved ones to do the same. Our Best Shot: The Importance of Vaccines for Older Adults is a short animated video that gives an overview of how vaccines work, highlights the importance of vaccination, debunks common myths and misconceptions, addresses the need for vaccination later in life, encourages communication with health care professionals, and reminds older adults of their influential role in increasing the immunity of their families and social circles. This video is part of a larger community workshop kit, developed in partnership with the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a), that provides the resources necessary for community leaders to conduct an educational program on vaccination in older adults. The kit will be piloted in August with four n4a sites, and then released broadly around National Grandparents Day in mid-September. The video, and accompanying community events, will be a drumbeat for older adults across the country to mobilize themselves and their families to get the vaccines that they need to protect their health.
• The Office of Minority Health (OMH) developed and maintains a co-sponsorship agreement between HHS and Walgreens Co. that provides $15 million in free seasonal influenza vaccine to uninsured individuals each year. Working with community and faith-based organizations, this initiative has successfully vaccinated over 800,000 individuals.
• The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) involves pilot projects designed to improve both the exchange of vaccination data and access to vaccination data by consumers. This includes the "data hub" initiative being advanced in collaboration with NVPO, CDC, and state and local partners. The data hub enables state and local immunization information systems (IIS) to exchange data through a centralized model utilizing existing standards. The central hub connects all participating jurisdictions. ONC is also working closely with CDC to specify CDC's Clinical Decision Support for Immunizations tools into sharable clinical decision support artifacts.
