Statement on the Swearing-In of Samuel Bagenstos as General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Today, following confirmation by the U.S. Senate, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra formally swore in Samuel Bagenstos as General Counsel of HHS.

“As Samuel Bagenstos takes the helm as General Counsel, he brings years of distinguished public service and a strong track record of upholding the rule of law – at the state and federal level.” said HHS Secretary Becerra. “A champion of labor rights, affordable health care and civil rights, General Counsel Bagenstos will be instrumental in our Department’s work to protect public health, safeguard civil rights and expand access to health care. Additionally, Sam has led negotiations tied to significant settlements, he has promulgated critical rules and overseen the enforcement of civil rights law. His legal acumen and expertise will help us advance HHS’s mission to build a safe and healthier America.”
