Maura Calsyn

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy

Ms. Maura Calsyn is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy. In this role she advises the Assistant Secretary for Health on all aspects of legislation, policy, research, evaluation, and intergovernmental matters. As part of the leadership team within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, she is also responsible for developing and directing policy initiatives across the Office.

Prior to her role as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy, Ms. Calsyn held a variety of health policy and leadership positions at the Center for American Progress. Most recently, as the Vice President for Health Policy, she led CAP’s health policy development and advocacy work and established CAP’s public health program, which works across the organization to address structural public health challenges and advance health equity. Before joining CAP, Maura served as an attorney for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Division of the Office of the General Counsel at HHS. Early in her career Ms. Calsyn served as a congressional aide in the House of Representatives, focusing on healthcare and other domestic policy issues.  She holds a B.A. in government from Hamilton College and J.D. from Harvard Law School.
