Health Attachés

The Office of Global Affairs posts and supports health attachés in almost every region of the world. Health attachés are the main point of contact for global health diplomacy in their respective countries and, in some cases, regions. They facilitate relationships between the U.S. government and our in-country and regional counterparts to create the space for HHS to apply its expertise globally, advance research through collaboration, and contribute to effective health policy. They also represent the United States in key regional policy discussions that touch on the intersection of health and any number of sectors, including trade, security, or the environment; and act as a resource for representatives of HHS and other U.S. agencies in the region. They are an important point of contact for the United States in the event of an infectious disease outbreak or other public health event.

Currently, health attachés are posted in Brazil, China, India, Mexico, South Africa, and at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. We continue to receive more requests for health attachés than there is capacity to support.
