HHS Awards Grants for Title X Family Planning Program in Puerto Rico

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded $300,000 in one-time emergency supplemental funding, at the request of the grantees, to support two Title X Family Planning grantees in Puerto Rico that requested funds to increase the availability of family planning services and access to contraception for women and men during the Zika outbreak. 

Grantee: University of Puerto Rico
Award: $250,000

Grantee: PROFAMILIAS
Award: $50,000

Family planning services funded through the Title X program include: clinical family planning and related preventive health services; information, education, and counseling related to family planning; and referral services as indicated.  Title X funds cannot be used to provide or encourage abortion.

The HHS Office of Population Affairs within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health oversees the Title X Family Planning Program, which supports nearly 4,200 family planning centers in every U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the Pacific Basin and serves more than 4.1 million women and men each year.
