Summary:
We are thrilled to announce the release of a final report and roadmap for the first phase of the Indian Health Service Health Information Technology Modernization project.

: Indian Health Service Strategic Options for the Modernization of Health Information Technology

Over the past year, the Department of Health and Human Service Office of the Chief Technology Officer led the first phase of the Indian Health Service Health Information Technology Modernization Project in partnership with Indian Health Service and the Office of the National Coordinator with goals to assess the current state of health IT at IHS, present electronic health record modernization options, and establish a strategic roadmap.

The Office of the CTO’s engagement is a demonstration of the Department’s commitment to support the IHS mission to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level through modern, innovative, and practical health information technology.

We are pleased to release two reports which provide a roadmap to support improved clinical and non-clinical operations in health care facilities throughout the IHS, tribes, tribal organizations, and urban Indian organizations. Taken together, the findings identify key improvement opportunities, related work initiatives for implementing Health IT, along with estimated timelines and performance indicators, see links to report below:
