The Perils of Peer Review

Modernizing the peer review process

Executive Summary

Retrospective Clinical chart review serves several purposes. It may be used to investigate specific issues with care episodes or with providers. It is also intended to be an ongoing process of surveillance of clinical quality for an organization. It is also just about the last thing most providers want to be doing. It can be difficult for clinic leaders to implement an ongoing process of chart reviews because of the logistics involved with assigning the task, collecting the data, and analyzing the results. Most of the time this process is accomplished using paper worksheets, which may limit the extent that any good information from peer review will be analyzed quickly or meaningfully. A web app was developed to address the luddite process and it was fine enough. But then we dug a little deeper.
