In September, the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics published a study, Comparison of Hepatitis C Treatment Costs, Estimates of Net Prices and Usage in the U.S. and Other Major Markets. The study measured the estimated total hepatitis C treatment costs in the United States compared with prices in six European countries and Japan. In the United States, total cost was further broken down by the percent paid by Medicare Part D plans. The study also measured how many of those with HCV had been treated in each country. This study is one of the first to describe and compare the cost and utilization of hepatitis C therapies since the approval of new, highly effective direct acting agents became available in 2013.

This study was conducted independently by the IMS Institute with funding support from the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA).
