CDC National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention Seeks Associate Director for Strategy and Implementation

CDC seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Associate Director for Strategy and Implementation, Division of Viral Hepatitis (DVH), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP).

This position will oversee the Division’s Strategic Implementation Unit within the Office of the Director. This position will be responsible for identifying and developing public health policies, partnerships, and initiatives improving access to viral hepatitis prevention and treatment services across all populations, especially those with disproportionate burden of disease or barriers accessing services. Further, this position will oversee the development and application of strategies and activities accelerating the uptake of national viral hepatitis testing guidelines and vaccination recommendations.

This Division, in collaboration with U.S. and global partners, provides the scientific and programmatic foundation and leadership for the prevention and control of viral hepatitis infections and their manifestations. DVH has a broad scope of activities, including outbreak investigations; surveillance programs; analytic, cost-effectiveness, vaccine, and behavioral studies; and the prevention and control of blood-borne, enteric, sexual, and chronic diseases.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Identify and develop public health policies and initiatives improving access to:
   • Viral hepatitis treatment across all populations (e.g. Medicaid recipients, justice-involved populations, people who inject drugs, people living with HIV), and
   • Comprehensive harm reduction services, including syringe services programs;
2. Build partnerships and serve as a liaison with national and state leaders to:
   • Implement strategies increasing access to affordable viral hepatitis treatment, and
   • Implement strategies increasing access to comprehensive harm reduction programs, including syringe services programs;
3. Oversee the development and application of activities to accelerate the uptake of:
   • National viral hepatitis testing guidelines, and
   • National viral hepatitis vaccination recommendations;
4. Provide leadership, strategic direction, and supervisory oversight of all personnel and functions of the Division’s Strategic Implementation Unit;
5. Coordinate and collaborate with Division branches and Office of the Director to achieve stated goals; and
6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced management and leadership skills
• Experience conducting and implementing strategic planning
• Experience developing, executing, and evaluating innovative strategies and policies to improve access to healthcare
• Experience developing, executing, and evaluating policies to improve access to harm reduction
• Experience establishing partnerships with federal agencies (CMS, SAMHSA) and state or local health departments
• Viral hepatitis clinical expertise
• Experience working with marginalized populations
• Experience working across CDC Centers or other organizational units
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

• 10-20%
