CDC Announces Funding for Integrated Viral Hepatitis Surveillance and Prevention for Health Departments
Update: CANCELED - Funding Opportunity Announcement CDC-RFA-PS20-2009: Integrated Viral Hepatitis Surveillance and Prevention Funding for Health Departments. Due to concerns regarding the significant strain on staff by the COVID-19 national emergency, CDC has canceled the current NOFO announcement. CDC is working to quickly prepare funding guidance for PS17-1702, PS17-1702-Supplement, and PS17-1703 programs and will issue a new integrated viral hepatitis funding opportunity for FY2021.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to support integrated viral hepatitis surveillance and prevention programs in states and large cities in the United States. This program will support core viral hepatitis outbreak response, surveillance, and prevention activities (Components 1 and 2, required), and special projects for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment related to the infectious disease consequences of drug use (Component 3, optional).
CDC anticipates awarding up to $341,020,000 over five (5) years to approximately 58 cooperative agreement recipients under Components 1 and 2, and up to 10 recipients under Component 3.
Priorities for this cooperative agreement are to:
- improve surveillance for viral hepatitis in states and large cities, including outbreak detection, investigation and control;
- facilitate state and large city viral hepatitis elimination planning; and
- increase access to hepatitis B and C testing in high-impact settings, and services preventing viral hepatitis and other bloodborne infections among people who inject drugs.
An additional optional component funds improved access to services for persons who inject drugs (PWID) in settings disproportionately impacted by drug use.
Pre-Application Technical Assistance Activities and Resources
CDC’s Division of Viral Hepatitis will be hosting pre-application technical assistance conference calls to provide potential applicants the opportunity to ask CDC representatives specific questions related to the NOFO on March 18, 2020 and April 1, 2020.
