The HHS Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy hosted the second of the two webinars, Hidden Casualties: National Partners' Response to the Opioid Epidemic & Infectious Diseases that discussed the impact of the opioid crisis on infectious diseases and shared examples of what national and local partners are doing to respond. Participating organizations included the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), and National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR).

Participating organizations included the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), and National Governors Association (NGA).

Healthcare Provider Training Resources

As part of implementing the Viral Hepatitis Action Plan, several federal agencies have produced and disseminated training and tools for healthcare providers to support them in preventing, diagnosing and treating viral hepatitis.

CDC Provider Training Resources

CDC has developed or supported the development of a wide variety of online healthcare provider training resources on a variety of topics for a range of healthcare providers, including:

HCV Current (SAMHSA)

This national initiative among the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Addiction Technology Transfer Center Regional Centers aims to increase HCV knowledge among medical and behavioral health professionals, especially staff at federally qualified health centers.

Resources on HIV & Viral Hepatitis Coinfection (HRSA)

Developed by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s AIDS Education and Training Centers National Resources Center, this resource compiles links to online resources for providers treating individuals with HIV-HCV coinfection including guidelines, slidesets, pocket guides, self-study materials and more.

HIV/HCV Co-infection: An AETC National Curriculum (HRSA/HAB)

The goal of this curriculum is to provide an evidence-based online curriculum for healthcare providers and trainers of healthcare providers to increase their knowledge on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) co-infection among people of color in the United States and its territories Topics covered include prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment recommendations as well as barriers and other co-factors that may impede optimal treatment outcomes for co-infected people of color.
