Employer Private Insurance: You get this as a benefit from your job. Includes retirees and COBRA coverage (coverage you continue after you leave your job). Not government employees.

Individual Private Insurance: You buy this directly--not through your employer. Includes insurance purchased through Healthcare.gov or other state marketplaces such as "Covered California" or "New York State of Health," etc.

Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP): Health coverage for low-income people through the states, often with a state program name such as "Medi-Cal" in CA. CHIP provides health coverage to children in families with incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid, but who can't afford private coverage.

Medicare: Health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease.

Government employees, Veterans, and Military: This includes Federal (current and annuitant), State, or Local Government Employees, Veterans using VA Health Benefits, and current and former military members and their families eligible for TRICARE.
