The State of the National Vaccine Plan, the first of what will be an annual report, provides an overview of recent accomplishments and progress made by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and its partners that fall under the five goals of the 2010 National Vaccine Plan. The 2010 National Vaccine Plan provides a guiding vision for vaccines and immunization in the United States for the decade 2010–2020. The report also includes expert commentaries by leaders within the government and from external stakeholder organizations. The commentaries, which can be found accompanying the progress report for each goal, discuss issues in vaccines and immunization that need continued attention moving forward.

Additionally, the report features an overview of the accomplishments and contributions of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee, which has been providing expert guidance to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on vaccine-related topics for 25 years.
