NVAC Public Member: Mary Anne Jackson, MD

NVAC Public Member | Term: 2/7/2017 – 2/7/2020

Dr. Jackson completed pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and infectious diseases fellowship training at the University of Texas-Southwestern under the mentorship of Drs. George McCracken and John Nelson. She joined the staff at Children’s Mercy, Kansas City, and has been the Division Director of Infectious Diseases since 1996, and through her 30 year career has participated in research focused on 3 core areas: 1) clinical trials of new vaccines; 2) use and impact of new vaccines and vaccine policies; and 3) the promotion judicious use of antibiotics, and antimicrobial stewardship.

She has served in roles at the American Board of Pediatrics as medical editor of the Infectious Diseases sub-board, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She is a current member of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee and the AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases where she was the Associate Editor of Red Book 2015 and the 2018 edition. She has been a research mentor to medical students, residents and fellows in training and junior faculty, and has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications. Since 2008, she has edited The LINK, a monthly newsletter, which is distributed to several thousand practitioners and strives to emphasize placing vaccine policy, and guidelines into practice, and offering clinical guidance in situations of communicable disease outbreaks.
