Patrick Hernandez

Deputy Assistant Secretary, Program Support Center

Patrick Hernandez is the Deputy Assistant Secretary, Program Support Center, in the office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He oversees an organization which provides over 40 services and products for HHS and other Federal interagency customers within financial management, occupational health, and real estate, logistics, and operations.

Mr. Hernandez served within HHS’ Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Incident Command and Control. Prior to ASPR, he was the Deputy Director for the U.S. Mint at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he served as the ranking career Senior Executive Service supporting the Director in leading the successful execution of the Mint’s mission.

Before the Mint, Mr. Hernandez was a Deputy Assistant Administrator at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in charge of the Field Operations Directorate. In this capacity, he was responsible for developing and maintaining infrastructure and critical delivery systems required to train, manage, and deploy over 16,000 people in FEMA’s Incident Workforce and three National Type I Incident Management Assistance Teams. Prior to joining FEMA, Mr. Hernandez had the privilege of leading Marines as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he retired in 2010.
