Webinar Series: Accelerating Healthcare Sector Action on Climate Change and Health Equity

The Health Care Sector Climate Pledge marks just the beginning of increased federal and private sector action to address the harmful impacts of climate change on people living in the United States. The Office of Climate Change and Health Equity (OCCHE) is committed to supporting organizations that have signed the pledge, as well as other interested groups, on their journeys to climate resilience and emissions reduction.

The Accelerating Healthcare Sector Action on Climate Change and Health Equity webinar series explores available government supports to assist healthcare stakeholders in this important work. The series features webinars on topics including financing resources available to support facility investments in sustainable infrastructure development and renewables and tools to support emergency preparedness and response. Each session will include time for questions and answers.

July 14, 2022 at 12:00 PM: Resilience, Emissions Reduction and Health Equity

Speakers: Department of Energy, OCCHE 

This session will introduce this webinar series. It will describe climate health action across HHS and the work of OCCHE to both advance work on resilience and emissions reduction in the healthcare sector and meet the needs of marginalized communities. July 21, 2022 at 12:00 PM: Financial Supports for Climate Action (and Insights on Applying)

Speakers: Department of Agriculture, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Department of Treasury

July 28, 2022 at 12:00 PM: Emergency Preparedness and Response Supports

Speakers: Office of The Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, Federal Emergency Management Agency 

This session will explore financial and educational supports for health sector stakeholders to prepare and respond to catastrophic climate events. Rebuilding or building for hazard mitigation is another way facilities can prepare for the effects of climate change. You can view the webinar here.

OCCHE co-chairs the National Academy of Medicine Action Collaborative on Decarbonizing the U.S. Health Sector, a public-private partnership of leaders from across the health system committed to addressing the sector’s environmental impact while strengthening its sustainability and resilience. November 3, 2022 at 12:00 PM: Introduction to the Million Hearts Climate Change & Cardiovascular Disease Collaborative (CCC)

Speakers: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Environmental Protection Agency, OCCHE

Starting in the fall, Million Hearts CCC will be a national forum for health care organizations to learn about the cardiovascular health threats that climate change (e.g., extreme heat, extreme temperatures) and air pollution (e.g., particulate matter) present, review evidence-based interventions to address those threats (especially for high-risk populations), and access relevant solutions and tools. November 17, 2022 at 12:00 PM: Federal Health Systems Learning Network Findings and Best Practices

Speakers: Indian Health Service, Military Health System, Veteran’s Health Administration
