About ASPA Digital

The ASPA Digital Communications Division (ASPA Digital) is part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs (ASPA) and leads the development and evaluation of HHS web content, social media, and supporting technologies. The division also recommends and implements digital information policy, standards, guidance, and tools for the Department, as indicated in 70 FR 61621.

The ASPA Digital staff provides expert consultation on best practices in digital communications, including:

  • Federal digital communications policies and standards
  • Social media
  • Governance
  • Plain language
  • Usability
  • Analytics
  • Search engine optimization
  • Information architecture
  • Privacy and security

ASPA Digital manages HHS.gov, the HHS Intranet and several priority and cross-federal topical websites, including FoodSafety.gov and StopBullying.gov. It also manages HHS marketing including social media and email newsletters.


HHS Digital Council

HHS manages its digital communications activities through a Digital Council, led by ASPA Digital, and comprising of representatives of HHS Operating and Staff Divisions. ASPA Digital works with the HHS Digital Council to develop Department digital communications policies, standards, and guidance. The Council exchanges best practices and lessons learned to ensure quality, efficiency, and a focus on users in communications and operations.
