Nominations for Membership

All vacant Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community-Based Linkages (ACICBL) positions have been filled. However, if you are interested in becoming a member, please reach out to us again in May of 2023 where we will be seeking nominations for four individuals who can represent the fields of Mental & Behavioral Health, Geriatrics, Area Health Education Centers, and Data.

ACICBL Leadership

Ms. Sandra Y. PopeSandra Y. Pope, M.S.W.
Chair
Ms. Pope is the Director and Principal Investigator (PI) for the West Virginia Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program. Before AHEC, Ms. Pope was the Director of the Office of Rural Health Policy in the state Bureau for Public Health. For over 35 years, she has been engaged in various projects that support research, education, and training efforts in rural and underserved areas, and she is committed to advancing those resources to the geographically disadvantaged communities throughout West Virginia. As a member of the Board of Directors for the West Virginia Rural Health Association (WVRHA) and chair of the WVRHA Workforce Committee, she co-chaired a statewide Health Care Workforce Initiative, which illustrated shortages in various disciplines of healthcare providers in areas of West Virginia.

Dr. Thomas A. TeasdaleThomas A. Teasdale, Dr.P.H., F.G.S.A., F.A.H.G.E.
Vice Chair
Dr. Tom Teasdale is a Presidential Professor and health educator with over 35 years in the fields of public health, geriatrics, and gerontology. He contributes to several national committees, has developed many educational products for instruction in aging, and has authored over 60 publications/chapters. He worked for nearly 20 years jointly at the Houston Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. In 2003, he moved to Oklahoma to join the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Oklahoma Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatric Medicine. At the VA, he led the Geriatrics and Extended Care Service education mission and served as the Oklahoma site leader for the VISN 16 Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC). In the College of Medicine Geriatrics Department, he led the department's education mission, was PI of the HRSA-funded Oklahoma Geriatric Education Center, was associate director of the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative, and concluded as vice chairman of the Department. In 2015, he moved to the University of Oklahoma Hudson College of Public Health where he served as chair of the Department of Health Promotion Sciences until July 2021. His interests focus on the evaluation of health care initiatives and workforce development with priority populations experiencing disparities. He continues as co-PI of the University of Oklahoma GWEP HRSA Exit Disclaimer and leads the evaluation efforts for several tribal health care initiatives.

Appointed Members

ACICBL consists of up to 14 members appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services for terms of up to three years. By legislation and Charter, the ACICBL is comprised of a fair balance of health professionals that represent both urban and rural areas, with an adequate representation of women and minorities. Members are appointed based on their competence, interest, and knowledge of the following program areas and health professions:

  • Area Health Education Centers
  • Geriatrics
  • Mental and Behavioral Health
  • Graduate Psychology
  • Rural Health
  • Allied Health
  • Podiatry
  • Chiropractic
  • Pain Care
  • Quality Improvement and Patient Safety
