Authority
The National Advisory Council on Migrant Health (NACMH) is authorized by section 218 of the Public Health Service Act (PDF - 240 KB). NACMH is governed by Public Law 92-463, which sets standards for the formation and use of advisory committees. NACMH was established on November 26, 1975.

Duties
NACMH advises, consults, and makes recommendations to the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the HRSA Administrator, about the organization, operation, selection, and funding of migrant health centers and other entities assisted under grants and contracts under section 330 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act (42 U.S.C. §254b).
After each meeting NACMH provides recommendations that draw on current knowledge of the needs and concerns of migratory and seasonal agricultural populations, health providers, and administrators.
Members
The Secretary of Health and Human Services appoints 15 members to serve 4-year terms. The Office of Policy and Program Development, Bureau of Primary Health Care, HRSA provides management and support services.
Meetings
NACMH meets twice each calendar year. The first meeting is in Washington, D.C., where NACMH members receive updates from federal officials on the progress of migrant and seasonal agricultural population health issues. Members also review Migrant Health Program activities. The second meeting is in areas where NACMH members can hear from migrant and seasonal agricultural populations, and learn about issues that affect their health.
NACMH provides recommendations to the Secretary after each meeting. The recommendations are based on current knowledge of the needs and concerns of migratory and seasonal agricultural populations, health providers, and administrators.
