Welcome
Thank you for visiting the Kittitas County Transfer Station Relocation project website. Kittitas County selected the US 97/Old Highway 10 site for the new Ellensburg Transfer Station. The relocated station will provide the same services that are at the existing Ellensburg Transfer Station (i.e. transfer station, compost facility, moderate risk waste facility, and recycling depot). The transfer station on Industrial Way will close after the new transfer station is complete.
Thank you for your input to date. Your suggestions and comments were essential throughout the site evaluation and permitting processes. We are happy to report that the first phase of development started in May 2021 and will be complete at the end of October. Future updates will be provided from the Kittitas County Solid Waste website.
Latest update (October 2021):
Construction Status
- Construction began in 2021 with the installation of underground utilities along both US 97 and the access road (Green Avenue) in June, July, and August. Construction of the access road off US 97 started with grading in September and paving in October. Kittitas County's contractor worked closely with the City of Ellensburg and WSDOT to complete the first phase of development on-time and on-schedule.
Permitting Status
- Kittitas County has received all the necessary land use permits from the City of Ellensburg to begin construction on the first phase of infrastructure - namely the access road off of US 97 and utilities (water, sewer, gas, power, and telecom). View the permitting page to find all the recent permit applications and decisions.
